Friendly Adepticon 2015

So the Havocs are going to make their way to Adepticon again this year and much like the Law this will be my first (Despite actually being from Chicago)! So I have been trying to get a better handle on the 7th edition rules as well as how my Eldar work in this edition. Personally I don't think much has changed with the exception of the psychic phase, which totally has it's ups and downs, but this post isn't a commentary on that, so here is what I have tried out with some success (comments and criticisms are welcome!):

HQ
Spiritseer- 70

Troops
Wraithguard x 5 d-scythes -345
-waverserpent with twin linked bright lances and holofields

Wraithguard x 5- 295
-Waverserpent with twin linked star cannons and holofields

Dire Avenger x 10- 160
-Exarch with shimmer shield

Fast

Crimson Hunter- 180
-Exarch two bright lances and a pulse laser

Heavy

Wraith Knight- 300
-Suncannon and Scattershield with a scatter laser

Dark Reapers x 4- 150
-Exarch with star shot missiles

That's what I have so far and I tested it out twice and both times the wraithknight was anything but friendly. I talked the wraithknight issue over with the rest of the Havocs and they agreed as long as I didn't run more than one it should be ok, and that the tournament was more about the attitude than anything else.  The Spiritseer was fairly lackluster, he had some awesome spells to cast, but because he had a very limited number of dice the spells were being countered by Dan almost every turn (despite not having any psykers, most gifted psykers in the galaxy my ass) nullified my spells. So I might dump the dark reaper exarch and instead take a farseer, but the exarch along with the rest of the dark reapers are pretty brutal especially against marines. I think the hard balance is wanting to win, but not making a super competitive army list that isn't fun against. So tell me what you guys think!

Warmahordes Circle Orboros Progression

Progress continues on the Circle Orboros army that I traded for last month. I have 2 units and their UA's left to paint. Unfortunately, these days I quite loathe painting units of models. The monotony of painting the same thing over and over really crushes my soul. I better get used to it though because I just got 3 new units for my Cygnar army and a Colossal as well. Overall I'm still super excited about this game and wish I could play it more. This week is the last game of the 40K league at the store so perhaps I'll be able to get a few more games in soon. If not, I may start having to make the trek to Heroic Adventures on Thursdays to get my fix.

Warhammer 40K League Summary

A new league started at the FLGS this month. It's been using the Las Vegas Open style missions. We have a good sized group going to the LVO next year and wanted them to have some experience with the missions. I for one hope these missions become the norm at the club. It's a great mix of both Eternal War and Maelstrom mission styles, and it adds a lot more depth to the game. All of the missions can be found here if you are curious about them. The following is a quick summary of my games so far.

My List (Necrons, Chaos Space Marines, Imperial Knight): This is the list I plan on running for the entire league unless my opponent decides they don't want me to include the Imperial Knight. In which case he will be switched out for 2 units of Necron Warriors in Ghost Arcs.

HQ
Necron Overlord – Warscythe, Sempiternal Weave, Mind Shackle Scarabs - Catacomb Command Barge
Necron Destroyer Lord – Warscythe, Sempiternal Weave, Mindshackle Scarabs
Daemon Prince - Mark of Nurgle, Mastery Level 3, Spell Familiar, Gift of Mutation, Wings, Armor
Troops
5x Necron Warriors – Night Scythe
5x Necron Warriors – Night Scythe
10x Cultists
Fast Attack
6x Canoptek Wraiths
Heldrake – Bale Flamer
Heavy Support
Annihilation Barge
Annihilation Barge
Imperial Knight
Knight Errant

Adepticon!!!

Hey all,

The Law here with an Adepticon posting. I registered for the Friendly tourney this year and am looking forward to my first Adepticon. I'll be running my Raven Guard and though I have to paint several units yet I think the deadline will push me to get it done. I wanted to throw my list out there for some comments and critiques before I get too far along on my painting and don't have time to change it. So with out further delay here is Task Force Talon:

HQ:
Shadow Captain Korvydae (Forgeworld)
Librarian: w/ Plasma Pistol and Force Sword

Elites
Contemptor Pattern Dread: 2 x heavy flamers, 2 dread close combat arms, cyclone missile launcher

Troops:
Scout Squad 1: 4 Sniper rifles, Missile Launcher w/ Flakk,

Scout Squad 2: 5 Shotgun,
           - Landspeeder storm w/ Assault Cannon as dedicated transport.

Tactical Squad 1: 4 Tac marines, 1 Sgt w/ power sword and Bolter.
          - Razorback with Twin Linked Assault Cannon

Tactical Squad 2: 9 Tac Marines w/ grav gun and Missile Launcher w/ Flakk. Sgt with Power sword and bolter
         - Rhino

Fast Attack
Assault Squad: 9 Assault Marines w/ 2 plasma pistols and 1 Sgt with twin lighting claws
(Note due to Korvydae special rule they count as troops)

Heavy Support
Storm Raven Gunship with Multi melta and Assault Cannon.

Now I realize that two Forgeworld models may not seem all that friendly to some so I'm torn about that. I can easily use Korvydae as a standard captain for the same amount of points and the contemptor as an Iron Clad. That being said I still have to assemble and paint all the scouts, the rhino, the landspeeder storm and the librarian. Not impossible and I think very doable with the storm probably being the biggest pain.

The overall plan is for the Assault Marines and Korvydae to move up one of the flanks and tear into to enemy infantry. The sniper scouts will be positioned in cover to provide supporting fire as needed and hold a home objective if needed. The small tac squad will be joined by the librarian and hold a home objective and use the Razorback as fire support. The shotgun scouts will basically run around in the Storm doing drive bys and holding/contest objectives late in the game. The full size tac squad will push forward to hold an objective and probably screen the assault marines to some extent. The contemptor rides in the Storm raven and jumps in where his heavy flamers and close combat skills can do work. The storm raven then provides anti tank/ anti flyer support as needed.

Warmahordes/Warhammer 40k Updates

My obsession with Warmahordes is at an all time high right now. After Playing against Dan's colossal Mammoth this past week, I am vowing to get a large based model for my next purchase/tournament win. I traded a Riptide I've had sitting around in its plastic wrap since the Titan Tournament in April, earlier this week for some Hordes models. Thanks to Reddit's /r/miniswap I managed to get about 50 points of Circle Orboros models from someone who was looking to get out of the hobby. Quite the deal. I painted up my first model from that haul last night.

The new models aren't going to be seeing the tabletop anytime soon though. The new 40k league starts this week at Fantasy Books and Games and I plan on bringing the Imperial Knight to the fray. I'm not sure which army/armies I'm going to run him with but he's definitely going to get some play time. The missions are all going to be Las Vegas Open missions which is a nice change from the straight Maelstrom missions that we had been doing.

40k: Blood Angels New Codex

Makers here, been away from the game for awhile as real life has been getting in the way, and after the push for DieCon I got extremely burned out for awhile.

I have still been picking up the new codexes, supplements, data slates, pamphlets, booklets, biographies, etc...whatever the hell GW comes out with...

But the one that I'm really looking forward too is the Blood Angels codex towards the end of this year.

The problem for me, is that I am noticing a trend.

So many codexes lately have been nerfed into obscurity, specifically ones written by Matt Ward.
And some of them for good reason.

So far the rumors are as follows:

40k: Dark Eldar Test Model

Working in some DE commission!

Haven't quite got the paint scheme figured out yet for the kabalites, here's my latest idea!

Imperial Knight Update: Transfers and Basing Materials

Like the title says, I got all of the transfers and basing materials on. The transfers went on great. I used Micro Set and Micro Sol then sealed them with Lahmian Medium to give them a matte finish. They look absolutely seamless with the paint job. Zero silvering effect. I am SUPER pleased with it. Now I just need to paint the base and this bad boy is done. I use bark to simulate rocks on my bases. It always works out well. They look great after I paint them up.

Imperial Knight Update & Battle Report: Eldar/Imperial Knight vs Tau/Farsight Tau/Chaos Space Marines

I finished all the painting on the Imperial Knight and he turned out fantastic. Now I need to finish the base and get the decals on. I ordered some Micro Sol and Micro Set. Once they arrive I'm going to take the advice I got from my last post and seal the model with lahmian medium or a matte spray once I get them on.

Last night I got this guy on the table for the first time. Sadly, due to my opponent, it may have been one of the most awkward and unenjoyable games I've ever played. To start, his list was about 2728 points from what I can tell. The league is supposed to run at 2000 points. That combined with his sour mood and whiny antics really just put me off. At any rate, here's a quick battle report.

How The Fist got his groove back

After a slow summer for hobbying and the advent of fall, it's time to get back into hobbying.

The lonely havocs have been slacking on the comment and we apologize. To all 5 of our fans on here,  we are truly sorry. Any who...

A few of us are taking a hiatus from 40k looks like,  switching it up and moving into more regular warmahordes game play. I know,  I know,  the privateer press bandwagon but it's not that I am on the GW gripe train, I just haven't been enjoying it lately. And playing a different game for while helps. It's motivation to pick up some new pieces, which I did, DAMN YOU MINIATURE MARKET!!

But, I digress, me and Squoze playing some this Thursday,  maybe we can squeeze a batrep or 2 in. But here is some of my recent work.

Convergence of Cyriss unit of perforators and corollary light vector. One squad of heavy ranged infantry and a flying battery, WOOT! Hope you fools like em

Imperial Knight: Work in Progress

So, I thought I would post up some pics of my work in progress Imperial Knight. I'm doing my take on the House Cadmus color scheme. One thing about this model that I'm not looking forward to doing is the decals. I really don't have much experience doing them, and when I do they almost always end up looking shiny and terrible. I've watched a few tutorials on Youtube and they all suggest using Micro Sol and Micro Set. I've also heard that putting a gloss varnish on the surfaces helps but I really hate gloss varnished models. If anyone has any tips or suggestions for using decals and transfers please let me know.

Space Marine Scouts

I finished my Space Marine Scouts which gives me a fully painted Space Marine allied detachment. I was pretty satisfied with the way these guys turned out. In my rush to get them finished i forgot to drill the gun barrels. I will definitely go back and do that before these guys hit the table. Now I need to decide what to paint next. I recently sold my Grey Knights and am looking to replace them with an Imperial Knight army. Chances are high that they will be the next things on my table.

Space Marine Centurions and Tigurius

After witnessing the awesomeness that is the Centurion-Star at DieCon and the past few tournaments I've been to, I decided to finally take the plunge and buy some Space Marines. I picked up a box of Centurions, 5 Scouts, and good old Chief Librarian Tigurius. At some point down the line when I have some extra cash, I plan to get 1 more Centurion off of the Ebay.

I knew I didn't want the standard blue Ultramarines but I still wanted to take Tigurius. That meant I needed to find an Ultramarines Successor Chapter with a color scheme I enjoyed. I ended up going with Hawk Lords. They reminded me a lot of pre-heresy Emperor's Children of which I'm a big fan. Their fluff says they're all about using gunships so eventually I want to pick up a Stormtalon for these guys. Now I just need to paint up my 5 Scouts and I'll be in business.

Warhammer 40K 7th Edition Battle Report: Grey Knights vs Necrons

This was my last game using the old Grey Knights codex. I'm really gonna miss how good this army could be. This army was my first 5th edition tournament army and it won me quite a few. With the book being broken into Codex Inquistion, Codex Grey Knights, and Dataslate: Officio Assassinorum, chances of me still playing vanilla Grey Knights is going to be low. I love the aesthetic of the army but that doesn't help me very much in tournament play.

Points: 2000
Deployment: Hammer and Anvil
Mission: The Relic

My List (Grey Knights - Bound):

HQ
Inquisitor Coteaz (Warlord)(Forewarning, Perfect Timing, Prescience)
Ordo Xenos Inquisitor (Perfect Timing, Prescience)

Warhammer 40k: Grey Knights - 1st 7th Edition List

Makers here.
The new Grey Knights codex is out and, well, its not great.

It's...well...it's something.

Tons of changes, some good ( Cheaper Dreadknights) and some bad (No Psybolt)

But I always try to find a silver lining, so I've been spending some time trying to make a list that isn't utter crap.

Here's what I came up with for 2000 points.

Librarian - Mastery Level 2
5 Man Strike Squad - Psycannon, Nemesis Daemon Hammer, 3 x Force Swords
Razorback - Twin Linked Heavy Bolter
5 Man Strike Squad - Psycannon, Nemesis Daemon Hammer, 3 x Force Swords
Razorback - Twin Linked Heavy Bolter
5 Interceptors - Incinerator, Nemesis Daemon Hammer, 3 x Force Swords
5 Interceptors - Incinerator, Nemesis Daemon Hammer, 3 x Force Swords
Dreadknight - Heavy Incinerator, Nemesis Great Sword, Personal Teleporter
Dreadknight - Heavy Incinerator, Nemesis Great Sword, Personal Teleporter

Librarian - Mastery Level 2
5 Man Strike Squad - 5 x Force Swords
5 Man Strike Squad - 5 x Force Swords
Land Raider - Twin Linked Heavy Bolter, 2 x Twin Linked Lascannon Sponsons
Land Raider - Twin Linked Heavy Bolter, 2 x Twin Linked Lascannon Sponsons

Had to use 2 detachments, but I think it would work.

Thoughts/Plan:
- Use the Interceptors and Dreadknights to teleport on turn 1 across the board, use their Incinerators to toast your opponents troops.
- Bring the Land Raiders in to mop up transports and Mech with templates.
- Move the Razorbacks up to hold midfield objectives or cover the flanks.
- Maybe move the Daemon Hammers from the Interceptors to the Strike Squads in the Land Raiders
- Dreadknights assault things like Imperial Knights or Riptides.
- Wraithknights are your Kryptonite.

Is it tournament worthy?
Probably not.

You'd get wrecked by a Mechanized army like Necrons or Eldar, but I think you could hold your own against Tau or Space Marines.

The old codex was designed more towards shooting, and it did that very well with things like Psybolt Ammunition. The new one is geared more towards Close Combat with all the high strength weaponry.

I will agree there are NUMEROUS things in the codex that I absolutely despise, namely the utter crap that they call "Relics" but I think in the end time will tell.

Mostly its the community that amazes me.
For awhile all of the codexes were geared towards shooting and everyone complained.
Now they are releasing codexes with more close combat orientation and people still complain.

Make up your mind people!!

After thought:
If this is what they did to Grey Knights, I can only imagine what they are going to do to Blood Angels in November...Emperor protect us...

I bet Dante still wont have Eternal Warrior...

Grey Knights 7th Edition Codex Review and Early Impressions

Likes:
Cheaper cost Terminators
Cheaper Librarians
Grand Masters now have ML 2
Psilencers have the "Force" rule and Incinerators have the "Soul Blaze" rule
Dreadknights have a much lower point costs for gear
Crowe is finally an Independent Character
Cheaper Apothecary upgrades
Dreadnoughts moved to the Elites slot
Can throw Psykout Grenades
Land Raiders are dedicated transports

Dislikes:
No more Psybolts
Assassins are Dataslates now
Dreadnoughts got a point increase and lost Psybolt. That's a big hit.
No more Mordrak and Brother-Captain Stern still sucks
No more Grand Strategy
Psychic Pilot vehicles are gone on everything other than Dreadnoughts
No awesome grenades (Rad, Psychotroke, etc)
Psycannons are Salvo weapons and Nemesis Halberds are +1S instead of +2I. Seriously...WTF. Now I have to re-gear every damn model I have. What a ridiculous change. Why would I need +1S when I have Hammerhand to already give me +2. Just idiotic IMO. Sure they reduced the cost to 2 for all units but this doesn't make up for it. It's better just to use the Swords.
Nemesis Force Swords lost +1 to Invulnerable Save
Nemesis Warding Stave lost the 2++ Invulnerable Save in CC.
Mindstrike Missiles on Stormravens are gone.
Nemesis Doomfists are gone.
Kaldor Draigo now just base S4 and T4 and is a Lord of War. But hey his cost went down...

I agree with 3++ Is the New Black when they say:

"All in all, though, I'm extremely disappointed with the half-assed job GW did here. A lot of people aren't happy with the Ork or SW codices, and perhaps that's fair- their is a certain lack of je ne sais quoi about them, especially when it comes to the fluff and picture sections. But the Grey Knights codex takes this leaps and bounds further, pulling almost all of the interesting parts of an already-borderline codex and giving them almost nothing in return. If this is the direction they are taking the game, I am not impressed or enthused."

For a great look at the codex head over to Blood of Kittens.

Raven Guard Fellblade!!!

As some of you may have seen on our Facebook page I began construction of a Fellblade Super Heavy Tank for my Raven Guard this week. I finally finished assembly of it today and thought I'd show it to you guys. So without further ado I give you the the Fellblade "Corvus Ferox" or roughly translated "Raven's Anger". The commander has yet to be named.
Here you can see the partial assembly from earlier this week.

I've added some brass etchings to give it some more character

The lascannon sponsons are magnetized so that they can be swapped out if I choose to.

Added the Forgeworld Rhino Doors

And an overhead shot.

Now I must admit this was a pain to assemble. The worst part by far was putting the treads on. I had to heat them up several times to get them straight and then actually getting them to fit on the tank itself was quite a challenge. Overall, though I've very pleased with how it turned out, not that I could fix anything at this point anyways. I magnetized the crew so that I can pop them out and put on hatches if I feel like it. I gave the commander two combi bolters becuase hey why not. I'll actually use those to represent a pintle mounted weapon if I use one.
The only thing left modelling wise is an inspection to see if there are any gaps I need to fill with green stuff and then its off to paint. I'll be sure to get pictures up when that's done as well.
