Hobby Update: Tech-Priest Dominus

I know I said I was doing my drop pods next but unfortunately, the nozzle broke on my detail airbrush halfway through the process. So I put them on hold and airbrushed the Skitarii/Cult Mechanicus portion of the War Convocation in the red/orange base color I decided on. I'm going for a Ryza scheme for the army which should match my Cerastus Knight-Acheron. The only thing left to do on this guy is some OSL on his Eradication Ray. That's going to have to wait until my new airbrush nozzle arrives though. Next up is the 6 Kataphron Destroyers.

X-wing: Imperial Veterans Expansion Announced!

Holy balls am I excited for this! Fantasy Flight Games has just announced the Imperial Veterans expansion. My favorite Imperial ship, the Tie Defender, will soon be viable on the table instead of completely laughable. Even better though is that the expansion gives you two different ways to improve the ship. The "Tie/D" title will reduce point cost and increase defense, while the "Tie/x7" title increases your offensive output and board control.

Hobby Update: Librarius Conclave

Last night I finished up my Librarius Conclave for my Super Friends army. The entire bike portion of the army is made up of conversions that used the Dark Vengeance bike set. It kept the cost of the army low but It meant that I would need to do a lot of converting to get the models geared the way I needed. Still totally worth it in my opinion, plus I like a good hobby challenge. I'm not the worlds greatest converter, but I think these guys turned out pretty good. The majority of the changes used Grey Knight bits to give them that psyker flair they needed. With these guys finished I'm going to move on to the 3 drop pods I need for my AdMech War Convocation/BA army. I need a break from painting bikes. Sadly I have 20 more I need to finish before the Super Friends army will be completed. I'll get to them...eventually.

Adepticon and other news!

Hello All,

The Law here, it's been a while since I've posted and took it upon myself to update you all on the Havocs upcoming time at Adepticon. There are several of us going including Capnmoe (see his post below), Spazgar, Tom the Wookie, Squoze, The Fist and myself. We are attending several different classes and events.

Both Tom the Wookie and Squoze will be attending a Necromunda battle. In addition Squoze, The Fist and Tom the Wookie will be playing in the Soda Hammer Glowpocalypse. Tom the Wookie and I will be playing an epic battle of Space Hulk. Squoze is waitlisted for that event which means I'll have to ensure another play has an unfortunate accident or you know have Squoze help me play. Squoze is also playing some X-wing in the form of the Battle of Yavin IV. Several of us are also doing the Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulation which promises to be interesting.

I'm attending a Painting with the Masters class on Thursday morning. Squoze and I are also both attending Army Speed Painting 101.

In addition to Adepticon the Havocs have been up to several other things. I, myself am working to expand my Raven Guard Army. I've recently completed assembly on some Assault Terminators and some more scouts. I picked up the Battle of Calth boxset and intend to create some 30k tactical marines and possibly play some 30k battles.

I also recently celebrated my birthday by playing in large game of Zone Mortalis. I used some Space Hulk tiles to create the board and hope to play another game soon and have a Batrep up for you all.

That's all for now. The Law out.

Adepticon, Hobby Table, War Convocation, and X-wing League Update

It's finally happening!!! I get to go to Adepticon in 2016. This is something I've always wanted to do. I get to test my gaming prowess against the best of the best in the Warhammer 40k Championship Tournament and push my piloting skills to the limit in the X-wing 2 Day Tournament. Even though I'm still a novice, I may throw down in some Warmahordes Iron Gauntlet Tournaments. Now comes the hard part of picking army lists and getting them fully painted and ready to go.

My motivation seems to be pretty low lately for painting. I've still managed to eek out a few finished models here and there. I got my Biker Chaplain magnetized and painted for my Dark Angels/White Scars/Space Wolves Super Friends list. I painted up my Thunderfire Cannon just because it's a cool model and it was fun. And finally I finished my Sanguinary Priest and 5 more Scouts for my AdMech War Convocation/Blood Angels list. I even got a game in with them against Sisters of Battle/Space Wolf Super Friends.

Remembering all of the wargear, Canticles of the Omnissiah, and Skitarii Doctrine Imperatives can be challenging to say the least. This is an army that you have to play a LOT to become proficient with no doubt. It was a fun game and even though it was my first time trying it, I still won, although it was by a very slim margin. I love the army despite its learning curve and Im hoping that finishing my Super Friends army goes quickly so I can get this one painted.

My previous X-wing league ended and a new one has begun. I got third and took home some official Fantasy Flight Games evade tokens. This time around I've decided to alternate between Rebels and Imperials every session. This past week was Imperials. They are easily my weakest faction. I played Rebels pretty much exclusively until Scum and Villainy hit. I decided on an "Aces" build instead of the 2 ship builds that seem to be popular lately.
Soontir Fel — TIE Interceptor 27
  • Push the Limit 3
  • Autothrusters 2
  • Stealth Device 3
  • Royal Guard TIE 0
Ship Total: 35

"Echo" — TIE Phantom 30
  • Veteran Instincts 1
  • Advanced Cloaking Device 4
Ship Total: 35

Delta Squadron Pilot — TIE Defender 30
Ship Total: 30

While I don't think the list would win me any tournaments, I did well with it. Flying the Tie Phantom with Echo is an interesting experience for sure. My opponents rarely had any idea where I was going to end my movement with her. I'm looking forward to running this list or something similar again.

Warmachine and Hordes Battle Report: Cygnar vs Skorne

Warmahordes!!! I hadn't played a game since October of last year, and needless to say, I was really missing the game. I got a ton of Cygnar and Mercs stuff for Christmas last year that hadn't even seen the tabletop yet. At least with all the time between games, I managed to get most of it all painted. Fellow Lonely Havoc Sqouze and his Skorne took up the challenge. It was a 50 point game of straight up caster assassination.

My Cygnar/Mercs List:
Lieutenant Allister Caine (*6pts)
* Stormwall (19pts)
* Squire (2pts)
Arcane Tempest Gun Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts) (6pts)
* Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Officer (2pts)
Alexia Ciannor & the Risen (Alexia and 9 Risen Grunts) (5pts)
Greygore Boomhowler & Co. (Boomhowler and 9 Grunts) (9pts)
Horgenhold Forge Guard (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
Captain Arlan Strangewayes (2pts)
Journeyman Warcaster (3pts)

Sqouze's Skorne List:
Archdomina Makeda (*5pts)
* Mammoth (20pts)
Nihilators (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
Paingiver Beast Handlers (Leader and 5 Grunts) (3pts)
Venator Catapult Crew (Leader and 2 Grunts) (3pts)
Agonizer (2pts)
Tyrant Zaadesh (3pts)
* Titan Gladiator (8pts)
* Titan Gladiator (8pts)

I won the roll off and deployed first. Here's the board just before the start of the game.

40k at Valhalla's Gate

Monday nights are open play for 40K at Valhalla's Gate in Columbia, MO. I started going to this about 4 weeks ago and have met some interesting people. So far I noticed that almost all of the people there run tournament lists and despite being competitive are actually fun to play against.

Last night I played against an 1850 point Imperial Guard Tank list with space marine allies. I decided to play a bit differently and ran a wraith host formation consisting of 3 squads of wraithguard with one having d scythes and the two cannon squads mounted in wave serpents with a spirit seer and a farseer. I had to also take a wraith lord which is something I haven't done since fourth edition and of course the wraith knight. The thing that makes this formation cool is that it gives all of my wraith units battle focus and allows me to re-roll failed hits on enemy units within 18 inches of the spiritseer. So in addition to that mess I also took a squadron of three jet bikes with shuriken cannons, the farseer, fire dragons on foot, dark reapers and a 6 man squad of dire avengers with exarch. My opponent as you can tell from the pictures was running a tank heavy list commanded by knight commander pask in leman russ with the damn gatling cannon and two leman russ plasma nightmares.

Things initially looked grim because I had really no long range fire support that could hurt those damn leman russ tanks, but I quickly realized that battle focus on wraith guard disembarking from a wave serpent is pretty legit, and makes them super fast. After tearing some stuff up it was his turn to unleash the hurt by shooting a literal fuck ton shots into my wraith knight and wave serpent. Luckily I onl lost 1 wound from my knight and a hull point from my wave serpent. Next turn things didn't work out as well and he obliterated my right flank with even more fire than the previous turn.

In conclusion, I lost. But I still had fun, which is all that matters, and I also realized that there were more than a few rules and abilities I forgot to utilize. Shame on me, can;t forget next time! Enjoy the pics! The pics taken were of mostly my game but I also snagged a few of some of the other games going on and the different armies being played! I hope you guys enjoy! There is a lot of well painted stuff!

Squoze's entire Nurgle legion sitting on a table

I was organizing my models and thought, why not put them all on the table??

There you go. I still have a lot of painting to do, but Im happy to say that an easy 80ish percent of them are painted (or at least started painted haha!)

The fluff sort of came about organically after playing these three armies for the past 3-4 years... I know the fluff could use some work, but I think it gives a good idea of the storyline I have for them (in my head anyway!)

Enjoy more pics!  Click the link below:

Imperial Knight 5/5 and an Imperial Knight Commission

One year to the date of making my first Imperial Knight post, I finally finished the army. This is the fifth and final Knight, the Cerastus Knight Acheron. Of course I say that now, but god knows they'll release another cool Knight down the line and I'll probably grab one of those as well. There's an ITC style tournament this weekend and I can't tell you how excited I am to try this guy out. I was motivated to finish this guy up mostly because I was also doing my first commission paint job on an Imperial Knight Errant/Paladin. I figured I'd paint them up along side each other since I'd be doing a lot of similar things on each. This was the first of what I hope becomes many more commissions. The project went smoothly and I'm looking forward to helping more people get their armies painted. If you have any interest in a commission please feel free to contact me at capnmoe2002@yahoo.com.

Here's a few work in progress pics.

X-wing: New League as Wave 7 Hits the Shelves

Last week as wave 7 for X-wing hit the store shelves, a new league began at Fantasy Books and Games. This wave would see the introduction of 2 bombers, the K-wing and the Tie Punisher, as well as 2 ships for the new Scum faction, the Kihraxz Fighter and the YV-666. I picked up the K-wing and the Kihraxz. This league I'm looking to run Scum only and the K-wing has some fantastic upgrade cards that should help. The Khiraxz is the Scums version of the X-wing with some slight tweaks.

The league itself will take place every other Thursday starting 9-2-15 and ending 10-14-15. There's some great prizes this time around and everyone who participates gets an alt art "Recon Specialist" card.

I decided I wanted to get the Khiraxz on the table in the first week for nostalgic purposes. When I used to play Star Wars Galaxies, I flew this ship often. I knew I wanted to try and step outside of my comfort zone for this league as well. I wanted to try an elite 3 ship list as opposed to the "Tanky" high shield/hull point lists I normally run. I also wanted to try and find better builds for a few of the Scum ships that hadn't preformed very well for me in the past. So with that in mind I decided to try:

With only 3 ships on the board, I tried to gear most of my upgrades towards keeping my ships alive. This was definitely a "Glass Cannon" list compared to what I'm used to running.

Game 1
My opponent's Squad as Best I Can Remember:
Blue Squadron B-wing
Blue Squadron B-wing
Gold Squadron Y-wing - Ion Cannon Turret
Warden Squadron K-wing - Cluster Mines, Ion Bombs, Advanced Slam, Extra Munitions

This game started out strong but really went no where. I was unable to focus on any single ship after my initial pass. Each of them had 8+ hull points so it was difficult to take them down. Guri hit a couple of the new cluster mines in turn 3 and got vaped. Once she went down it felt like a lot of the wind came out of my sails. I did however fly the ships pretty well, and to my surprise the M3-A was the only ship to survive. I lost this one pretty handily. The best I managed to do was get the K-wing to 2 hull points and burn a few shields off of some of the others.

Game 2
My opponent's Squad as Best I Can Remember:
Binayre Pirate Z-95
Binayre Pirate Z-95 - Feedback Array
Binayre Pirate Z-95 - Feedback Array
Binayre Pirate Z-95 - Feedback Array
Binayre Pirate Z-95 - Feedback Array
Drea Renthal Y-wing - Flechette Torpedoes, Ion Cannon Turret, R4-B11

Man this was a cool list. I have often wanted to try this with Z-95's. Drea seemed to be geared to control a ship and then have the Z-95's rip it apart with feedback. I faired a bit better in this game. I managed to take out 2 or 3 of the Z-95's and put a hurting on Drea. Unfortunately it wasn't enough and by the end of the game the M3-A was the only shipped still flying for me. I lost this game too.

After all that, I do plan on fielding the M3-A in more games. It was surprisingly survivable and did some work with its Heavy Laser Cannon. Graz did all right and while Glitterstim is a solid card, I wasn't overly impressed by it. I'm still not sold on the Starviper or any of its pilots. The ship seems over costed and doesn't really know what roll it wants to fill on the battlefield. It's not a jouster and it doesn't arc dodge well. What is its purpose? Next week I plan on mixing in some of the gear from the K-wing expansion. I'm going to stick to a 3 ship build, but up the shield/hull points up quite a bit. I'm really excited to try out the new "Twin Laser Turret" and the "Extra Munitions" cards. I was never really sold on missles/torpedoes/bombs before, but with addition of Extra Munitions you get a ton of value out of the cards. Here's the list:
